A Disappointing and Frustrating Day

Today I found out the frustration of the USAT rankings.  Last year for the 2008 season, I ranked 50th and was awarded honorable mention.  Overall, I had a good season in 2009.  I never placed lower than 2nd overall, but I wasn't able to race as much as I wanted.  I spent part of the season injured and during the entire season I was frustrated with my run, which was worse than the previous year.  I had been hoping to improve my run, but for some reason I couldn't get faster times.  It was probably because I spent so much time injured and unable to run.  Tonight I decided to check the rankings.  I was happy at first to see that I was now ranked 43rd, but then I looked over and saw that I wasn't Honorable Mention.  It is very frustrating that I placed higher but didn't make Honorable Mention.  I found that the reason was because in 2008 there were 530 women ranked in my age group, but in 2009 there were only 419.  This is also frustrating because triathlon is supposed to be growing, and it is frustrating that my age group is so small.  When I looked at my father's age group, his group has over 2600 men ranked!  Of course these results are still "unofficial," but I have doubts that 100 more women will show up on the rankings.  Now I must let this year lie because there is nothing I can do about it, it is in the past.  Funny, but the guy who does the P90X video, who I find absolutely hilarious, says "Do your best and forget the rest."  I think this is very fitting for my season in 2008.  I did the best I could with the conditioning I had and the cards I was given.  I'm still pondering my goals for the 2010 season, but I'm getting close to picking my goals   : )
